thank you all for your contributions, looks like im going to be talking it through with the designer tomorrow and he reckoned about 4 weeks to get it onto the app store! so if anyone has any ideas for the app, and I have been advised to charge a bit more so I would be intrested to see what you all think a fair price would be for the app?

all input appreciated and for big development ideas a commission may be negotiable!

What about including a compass either app or add on to make it more rounded for surveyors, just come back from tree lifes three days so thinking of handy things i forgot

hi- thanks for your input, iphones comes with a compass app, plus the cost of making these apps are very expensive, so im trying to make it as basic I can with the software I want.

really appreciate it.

I had a solar guy stood in my garden using an iPhone compass. He insisted that due West was South. He was not going to be swayed even when pointing out the position of the sun, next door's weather vane and the orientation of the nearby church and so we quickly parted company.

Blind faith is a dangerous thing.

basically it works just like a clinometer using trig and will be deadly accurate, If i have enough intrest I will be talking to some web designers in the next week and will be in the app store soon!

cheers ciaran glyde

How can you be sure it will be deadly accurate? A clinometer requires no batteries and is as accurate as ther person using it. Other posters have pointed out the pitfalls associated with apps ie incorrect readings (compass) and app stops working (previous post).

How will your app improve on the reliability and accuracy of say a suunto clinometer?
