How much do you guys know about doing tree reports??

I was thinking of having a try at Tree Consultants Directory - Tree consultants, Tree consultancy, Arboriculture, Arborist, Tree survey, Tree report, Tree inspection, Tree advice, Tree work, BS5837, BS3998, Tree services, Treecare but i am a little nervous about putting a profile up

I used to do tree assessment in New Zealand, but I am a little unsure of when you can say you are a consultant in the uk

What is the definition of tree consultant in the UK apart from the professional indemnity for it

:confused1:

Hi there,

I think there is a big differnece between a person who can undertake a 'tree safety risk assessment', or tree hazard assessment, and record the findings and recommendations (with appropriate timescales of course) on a form and an 'Arboricultural Consultant'.

Obvioulsy I am influenced to some extent by the AA Registered Consultant scheme we administer, but, regardless, an effective consultant, as well as having an adequate level of arb technical knowledge, and ideally a qualification to support this (level 3/4 min. I would suggest), is someone who can clearly communicate the findings and recommendations in writing to their client. I would also expect the consultant to have a reasonable understanding of areas inc. subsidence & heave / planning & development / woodland management / tree production and selection etc. etc. as well as tree safety.

The competent arborist may be capable of undertaking an adequate tree safety assessment, and record his/her findings etc., but I don't believe that makes one a consultant.

There, my 'ten penneth!'

Thanks for the opportunity.

Paul

PS now if you marketed yourself as a 'tree safety advisor' fine!

Thanks Paul, and of course you are a little protective of your flock, they will retire one day you know!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t want to be the expert witness defendant for the national trust; I was thinking more of Tree Preservation Order applications, Tree inventory (gps) surveying & BS5837 planning application supporting documentation.

In England, or Wales for that matter you would search on Google for “tree consultant” rather than “tree surgeon” , would you not? cheers

So technically you dont have to be qualified to do tree reports :confused1: our industry is full of holes

I would join up with CAS (Consulting Arborists Society and work your way through the process, i like the way they asses you in a given area and then you can be a CAS registered member for THAT service which you have shown to be competent in, gives you/the client some reassurances, and a recognised body.:thumbup1:

im going to sign up and get on the PTI so that i can start off as a tree assesor and work up the modular ladder:thumbup:
