I was just wondering if you could achieve the same result with a figure8 descender instead of a rope wrench in this setupImageUploadedByTapatalk1313746897.332434.jpg.0e222b89ed003e8c2b38db2c6cd4bc02.jpg I was thinking put a bight through the big ring on the descender then clip a krab through the loop

Ok that just looks like a real handful. I can see the Tree Wrench is easier than F8 system but I still don't understand the advantage of it.

Does it keep your weight off the hitch knot? Is that it?

If that's all it is I don't see any advantage over the other SRT systems. If anything it must be harder work to ascend with.

However, maybe I'm dumber than I thought.

you can descend on a single line with a friction hitch....hence the need for the extra friction provided by the tree wrench. In Ddrt, your set up transfers the weight on the hitch cord over the worked end and the tail end(if that makes sense).

Its arguable harder to ascend with sure, as again you dont have that leverage on your side that Ddrt gives you. but thats overcome with the use of pantins etc and you gain a huge speed advantage as you will ascend the rope twice as quickly as Ddrt.

Of course, if you just try and body thrust on it like you would Ddrt you're going to struggle, unless you're built like Arnie.

Hope that makes sense?
