More stolen saws

A mate of mine had some saws etc stolen from his truck today.

 

A passing motorist got a description of a guy loading saws into a car by his truck. Any info if you're offered saws would be appreciated. He's described as early 30s, stocky, dark/black hair and driving an old silver Escort saloon. Cheers.

You can't turn your back for 5 mins....................no doubt they will be offloaded to some jobbing gardners or gypos.....

I just do not understand how hard it is to secure your kit in the light of day weather traveling from shop to job or job to job or job to shop. Folks it does not matter to the thief who is determined and apparently more determined than the owner of said kit to steal it. Secure your Kit!. or have someone stand guard over it when not in use or when something else comes up. Cable and lock it together in between jobs and never take any time in between jobs for granted. The thief's main goal is to take advantage of situations any time any where and place, and they are always on the look out as well. Don't give them the chance or the time of day.

Thats easy to say but I have had a large felling saw stolen off of the back of my truck whilst picking up a kit bag only 3 feet away. They are bloody quick and have no fear

Again my point exactly. Did you have the saw secured in the back of your truck?, was it in plain sight??, with hundreds of post on this sight when will members learn that you can not leave any thing out in plain sight unsecured at any time PERIOD!. Thiefs are counting on you to be non complacent and un aware of your surroundings, remember they are in business stealing your kit and your business is to protect your kit at all times how else can you earn a living and put food on your table and afford new replacement kit???. The scumbags will get your gear one way or another no matter how much you try to protect it. You cant keep an eye on it 100% of the time or keep it locked up if your moving it from van to job its just not practical spending all your time locking up your gear every time you move something. Having someone stand guard over it is also hard to do if you are only 2 people and one the head down cutting and the other has the head down dragging etc. I understand what you are saying ELG but it is almost impossible to do, the scumbags are opportunistic as well as calculated and you can never be 100% security minded on the job.

Theft is theft, When I am at a job site and I have my equipment is secured and stowed. There are many situations where thiefs are given chances anywhere anytime. If I leave my kit out in the open or in the back of a truck or trailer in plain sight good or bad hood it is up to me to secure it when not in use. It's not left for chance or bad luck, really don't like them odd's., and I don't depend on them. I do depend on myself and always remembering that it is me against them. Them who are willing to steal from a easy mark and never give it a second thought. Everyone must be proactive and never give in to them!

You cant possibly secure your saw every time you put it down to drag some brash round the corner, nor can you carry it with you and this is when they strike. I would love to be able to secure my gear every time i put it down to do something else but that way you would have to spend an extra day on the job with all the locking and unlocking you would need to do and even at that there will always be that 1 time you forget and thats all it takes. I am not saying dont look after your gear but it is almost impossible to have it under lock and key 24/7 especially when you have your head down sweating and longing to get home to put your feet up. I would bet that if someone wanted to they could steal your gear from under your nose elg they are watching and waiting for that 1 opportunity and in your days work i am sure there is more than 1 chance for them.

I would say the only way is to have a video camera running constantly so that whenever it does happen at least you have a chance to catch them after the fact, unless they steal the camera as well:thumbdown:

Guess I have been lucky or I have not forgot yet. In any case nothing is 100% but the cost to replace and time to do so always makes me think twice. Not really wanting to bust anyones body parts, just my outlook on the matter. Stay safe and do everything you can to protect you kit.
