Any ideas?

Found these little(ish!) blighters while grinding some bolts off on our old barn. These were hidden on top of a piece of wood which has been there at least 40 years! The wood was from the Americans at the end of WW2. They didn't want it so my grandad took some when they were at the docks and they burnt the rest before he could get more.

 

Does anybody know what type of bullets they are? There are some markings but they are a bit obscure. There's an '89' on one of them.

Hey Rob, if they have been fired, then why are the bullets still in them. Dose it look like a clip to load into a magazine on a rifle?

Its belted for a machine gun!

 

It could be they were dud or that they have been reloaded with heads as souvenirs.

Looking at them again the pin is pressed at the back so they could probably have been duds.

I believe there 7.62×51mm nato or there 7.62x39mm as they have the nato marking on the bottom of them but im no gun nut

yep - disintegrating link.. prob gpmg. safe to apply brass polish and make them shine again....
