Yes, if you turn the saw upside down you should see a small hole/passage in the crankcase on the edge of the gap to the handle housing . Often gets gunked up. However, no matter what the setting it shouldn't be oiling unless the clutch is engaging the chain sprocket, which it shouldn't be at idle. Is the saw leaking oil when not in use?

saw does not leak when off, i thought it may be a crack in the casing as ive had the saw for 10 year and it just lies at the chipper so the base of the saw is quite worn with ticking over on tarmac. it has just started doing it this week, i will adjust the oil and see what happens, thanks for the reply mate:thumbup1:

Is the saw oiling properly at operating RPM? If the casing was cracked the saw should leak all the time as would usually be the case if one of the O-rings/hoses were bad. However, I have seen the spring partially come off the worm gear and bind in clutches before. Causing the saw to oil all the time.

Another thought springs to mind, what size stuff are you cutting up? If it isn't that big and your oil pump is turned way up the oil will collect on the inside of the sprocket cover and drip down when the saw is put down...
