Mark 1 Ford Ranger problem!

Anybody know anything about Rangers. Can't find anything on tinternet!!! Got oil seeping on to the top of the intercooler and oil on the pipe going to the air filter? is this back filtering from the turbo if so is the turbo worn or need replacing?

If it's what I think it is it's caused by the air from the breather pipe from the top of the rocker box being recirculated into the air inlet (cant remember the exact name of it) and the best thing to do is bypass it, iirc a blanking plate on one end and run a new length of breather pipe down to the side of the chassis in the engine bay.

That sounds like a nice simple solution! Thanks very much!! I guess it will improve performance as the intercooler will stop getting clogged up! The truck does feel very sluggish at the moment. Are there any other things I should look out for?

Called heavy breathing either blocked breather system and a symptom of high mileage had this on a old Peugeot she had more miles that the space shuttle but never missed a beat

Hi treegeek. Yes high mileage 160000 miles. I thought it was breathing but thought it maybe the turbo. Had that problem on an old defender.

 

Do you think it'll harm turning the pump up a bit to give a bit better acceleration with the high mileage?

It will increase performance and mpg very slightly

On the ranger it's not so much the high mileage that causes the pipe lining it's a crap design (something to do with EU emmision rubbish) even with low mileage one's, but obviously it will make it worse with higher miles.

Was a fair while back when it was done but I had my pump timing advanced slightly which increased HP and fuel economy again, although that job was done by the local ford garage as a freebee

TBH with that mileage I would think it would need new injectors if it hasn't already, I would get them tested before messing with the pump.

Sounds good. Will get that done on the next service. Have been trying sort out the rough idle!! And sourcing a good rear axle!! All deciding to go this year!!! Lol

What could I use to blank the oil breather hole by the air filter?

err not sure but is that not the one you can stick a big bolt in and hose clip it in tight?

I think you need to have left a small bit of hose on the air filter pipe iirc to put the bolt in.
