    Can't fault this stihl so far. Great on a 16 inch bar. I don't have an allegiance to a specific brand. I get through a saw every 12/18 months. Sent from my F5321 using Arbtalk mobile app

    I had a 550 on a recommendation. Always had 346 and 357's and an awful stihl 362 paper weight. 550 lasted for 6 months after moderate use, had to replaced the av springs, baffles broke in the exhaust so replaced that, then the crank gave up. Shopped it in for a 261. Just as light, little slower revving, lovely to use, so far no issues. Sent from my F5321 using Arbtalk mobile app

    Can you do a day of it first? You can find out the sort of area you will cover in a day. Decide what you want to earn per day add a bit on for steep inclines, wet weather, brambles etc. You can workout how many days to cover a hectare then. If it's just bracken, you can cover a fair area on a good day.

    If you didn't plant the trees and it's your first time there, do it on a day rate and just get it done as quick as possible. Even small conifer planted in rows will be hard to find if you didn't plant it.

    Also depends on site conditions. Soil conditions, if its been mulched or brash raked etc.

    Depends on the size of the trees. I can have 1000 in by 1-2pm flat out. That's a speed I'm comfortable at. So 9 man days planting if you go on 1000 a day. If you stay on and plant a few hundred more each day your £££'s in!

    A bulldog spade (I use an old rabbiting spade) , good bag, canes sprayed with tree paint and a good selection of podcasts!

    Ring the stihl tech department and explain the problems. See what they suggest. I've never had a saw that has cost me so much in lost earnings before!

    I was but to be honest a professional saw should work from the get go. My old saws never let me down!

    Mine would start first time, but would then constantly cut out when back cutting a tree, or snedding out! It's gone back to Stihl so still waiting for an answer. A mate of mine has one of the first auto tune 362's and he has never had a problem with it.

    I sit down and sharpen away. Or I stand facing a tree, put the nose of the bar on the tree and the saw handle into my thigh and lean into it with the brake on.

    I have mate but I think I'd rather replace av mounts and clutch springs on a 560 than have to have my 362 rebuilt over and over again. 4 of my mates have 560's. Terrible when they first came out, but now they seem ok.

    My old 357xp has been retired so I have been left using my ms441 2010 model pre auto tune. I'm having to swap bars over. Anything from 16 to 24 inch bar. Heavy saw for some jobs. Stihl don't get that I put my money and faith in them, to sell me a saw that should allow me to earn a living. Without a saw I can't work. It's as cut and dry as that. Each time the saw has been repaired I have been without it 2 weeks +

    My saw went back to stihl HQ today via the dealer. It has been repaired 4 times now. Each time it has worked for a week or so, then starts playing up. Spoke to Stihl and they keep wanting to replace the solenoid! I use my saw day in and day out, so it needs to work full stop. The saw is 11 months old and I think I have been unable to use for 2 months out of the 11. When the saw worked it was great, but to be honest I'm going back to Husky. When I read how so many people have had problems with the 362 it makes me angry when Stihl make out that only I am an isolated case!! Recall or refund Stihl!!

    Bumping an old thread! In full time grounds maintenance for a local firm, but am yearning to be working in the woods again.     Hi tim Ber, Sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately the stuff that was taken could be passed off as the "new" owners. There were no distinctive markings. Tushing chains, crappy old combi cans etc. thanks for the help though. Just keep an eye on your stuff too. Tom
