If you could down to one lane and stop and go boards the actual time you'd have both sides shut would be only five minutes or less to fell, cut off the top and throw it back behind your road works and open up one side again?

 

Looking at the size of the tree compared to the wedge there doesn't look to be much top and trunk to shift?

Good points.....the majority of the fifteen minutes was getting the bolards etc in place to stop the duty knobber driving through Three junctions) the winch was already set up (just needed the rope clipping on once the road was secured) the fell and clearance was only five minutes.

I think you've been bloody unlucky there Mac.

 

I'd go to the customer and point out that a £140 road closure was cheaper than hire and delivery of an access platform to take down a tree you felt was not fit to climb and that you were unaware you were going to be charged for the closure.

 

See if they'll stand it or at least meet you part way.

I had access platform......Top branches are overhanging outbuilding. Took none of them off lowering it on it's own stem,,,,but thought better of it. So decided on a fell.

 

We had two trees to do this is the other one.

Today we had to take the remainder of a beech tree down. To cut a long story short it was safer to fell the remaining stem across a road.

 

Phoned highways who said they would inform the emergency sevices but we had to close the road ourselves. Got an invoice from highways for £140 by email by the time I got home.

 

We closed the road I got the gob and backcut in. Tree is only held by winch. Paramedic turns up with blue flashers on?????????/

 

What was the £140 for:mad1:
