Hi first make sure you are not running the machine faster than the correct rpm(see sticker on the front of the machine). Is the hydraulic oil to the correct level? Have you changed the hydraulic oil filter? It should be changed annually or more often if the machine is doing a lot of work. If after checking these things it is still running hot a worn splitter ram piston seal is probably the most likely cause of overheating. After that the automatic 2 speed valve may be faulty . You can pm me for more possible causes if this doesn't sort it. Do not continue to run the machine at too high a temperature or you will harden all the 'O' rings and seals, and wear the pump prematurely.

I would take the temp of the oil and talk to Large tree. The Ambiant temp at the moment is 20 deg which does not help and the machine was designed for softwood. I could swap your hard wood for softwood for no charge if it helps :biggrin: The oil will get hot but just depends on how hot.
