Yup. I love the work i am in. The main reason i have been volunteering for 5 years is because there is nothing going anywhere job wise. Only volunteering posts and very short seasonal contract posts.

Interesting pictures of work clearing and maintenance of rural paths. We used to do loads until the council gave the contracts to the BTCV. (one full time paid person and a van load of free people allowed to work more than 16hrs a week and claim dole):001_rolleyes:

Need some more herds of Ramblers to keep the footpaths worn after the strimming:laugh1:

It is common in this area for gardens/fences to "expand" onto the paths which should be wide enough for a horse and cart as most are old bridleways.

How do you manage to survive and afford being a free full time volunteer instead of being paid for all the hard work?:confused1:

I do a fair bit of beating during the shooting season which i split into two parts. One lot goes direct into the bank the other half goes into a savings account. During the summer i do gardening for friends and family so get a bit of pocket money for that.

Cracking job ranger(s), I've only come across needles once on a site clearance, I threw my toys out of my pram big time! Looking at what you guys deal with daily I feel my actions were perhaps (definately)over the top, really enjoying your thread, keep up the good work but most of all be careful when dealing with the aftermath of these mindless scroats! :thumbup1:
