Hiya

Great to bump into you here :thumbup1:

What have you made from the Oak we did in your back garden?

Keep up the good work!

I have laboured long and hard to make a ladle which was promptly nicked by a visiting relative, I have made some wedges, bearing in mind how tough it is I will try some butter spreaders :-) I can see why people prefer sycamore and cherry for hand carving now. Although I had some hornbeam which was a delight to carve and that can be tough!

If ever I get some spare time I will have a chat about deer :-)

Best wishes

Lots of people milling wood on here so finding timber should not be a problem

Thanks for the welcome, I tend to look for branches and crooks for spoons and small kuksas, logs for bowls and large kuksas.....

and the holy grail burrs

I am still experimenting with wood types mainly having used birch which is nice but plain, I love cherry for carving and people keep telling me that I "must" try sycamore. ANy suggestions for good wood to carve will be gratefully received.

I am also on the lookout for for a log for a chopping block 30" by 18".
