Ailing Yew tree?????

Recommended Posts

I recently planted three Yew trees on a slight slope. One of them is turning brown and has been for a while.

Ive been monitoring and have reduced watering when I thought that was the problem and increased when nothing changed.

It's now very brown and I'm concerned.

Any suggestions for fertiliser/nutrition?

Many thanks.

Did you check the pH of the soil? if you did what is it? :confused1: Could be a cause of the browning. . . another thing could be shade/no shade, iv seen a couple recently that are browning out (looks like drought stress) told the owner to water and now they have massive shoot extension - shame its not on the brown bits.:001_huh:

Didn't check the PH. However, the other two trees are fine and the three have been planted as a continuation of a yew hedge I planted two years ago. The previous hedge has developed well.

I'm at a loss as all signs point to lack of water - browning from the bottom up, drainage in the soil is good.

Worries me as they were expensive and my client is anxious.

The law of averages I'd guess. I planted 10 as a garden hedge in Betchworth a few years ago. All but two made it and those two were randomly placed in the row; no apparent rhyme or reason for the failures but us humans don't like mysteries do we.
