Following pictures taken on large section of deadwood at the base of a beech. I believe that the young developing bracket is G.australe, but not sure what the black knobbly stuff is though (except that it erm... black; knobbly; hard and brittle! :blushing:). Thought at first it might have been Daldinia concentrica, but I'm sure its not that now. Could it be Diatrype disciformis?

what i should of said (instead of what i did in jest:blush:) was that the tree if possible, which is probable from the photo, should be left to die with dignity and to feed new life:thumbup:

 

cue the lion king and the circle of life:biggrin:

 

 

i shall think about what i type next time:lol:
