If you have to leave tools in a vulnerable place, why not simply run a padlock and chain thru the handles? Less hassle than having them nicked.

I am having a tool box made to fit under my transit with piano hinges every thing except the poles can fit in them.

For transit I'd bungee them to a set of ladders, depends what poles you have tho. Most pilfering is opportunistic, so as long as you can make it difficult for a hit and run theft, you should be ok. If they really want to nick your kit, make it awkward as possible. If the pole set is in a bag, just lock them in the cab when you're not using them.

What about a plumbers pipe carrier. You would have to check the dimensions, but I'm sure someone makes one big enough.

Pete, it would have to be a massive tube to fit silky poles with an attachment on, I tried it, it will fit the poles only. But for fibre glass or allow screw/clip together it works fine.

 

I used to use wolf tools which had clip on/off attachments before silky were widely available and these poles fitted in my tube ok.

 

I made it out of downpipe and fitted a lock. You can just see it in this pic.

Doesnt take too long to whip the heads off the silky poles though. Used to use a set with just one bolt in, with a butterfly nut to change from pruner to saw head. The small expensive bits go in the cab behind the seat, the long expensive bits go in the tube next to the ladder rack.

Yeah it can be done. I prefer to keep mine with the heads on, especially as the polesaw now has the silky hook which is a bit more fiddly.

 

It mostly stays in the subaru, but thats another story....
