treating

how does folks, i'm after a bit of advice on what to us to treat carvings? i've done a few benches, owls etc ( really must get round to putting up some pics but you'll all laugh at me) any way, whats the best thing to use to treat stuff that will be staying outside, was just going to creosote everything but thought this would look naff so answers on a post card.....or on here if you prefer:001_tongue:

 

i dare say this question has been asked several times but 1- my mrs doesnt let me spend too much time on here cos the kids all need the computer for face book:sneaky2: and 2- i'm a lazy sod:lol:

For outside stuff just use a clear decking oil, or teak oil.

I use'd to use Danish oil on out side stuff but found it didnt stop the mold to well, just use it on indoor peices now.

doesn't teak oil make the wood very dark??

Yes, Teak oil will darken some woods, suppose it all depends on budget and the type off finish you want for that particular piece.

what sort of colouring would i get on oak, ash and sycamore? thats what most of my stuff is

Never carved Ash, so dont know. Oak seems to darken more than Syc especially the heartwood, Syc seems to go slightly golden.
