so would a lock jack be better at arms length?

Well I've been playing with this for many many months. I now have a 60cm strop under the LJ which is perfect for big, long pulls whilst ascending. It does mean that on a branch walk the LJ isn't close enough to reach the toggle or the tail of my rope.

So I've found I have it clipped close all the time except when ascending.

I don't have a photo but imagine the harness ring - carab - strop - carab - LJ. To make the switch from long to short, it's simply a case of clipping the second carab onto the harness ring.

Anyway, I don't see any reason why you can't do exactly the same with a Spiderjack. For that reason I'll be changing my LJ to an SJ, I think, maybe.:confused1:

how do u guys find using the SJ all the time im guna use mine, with a french prussik other end and with a steel flip line, and a cambium saver or pully saver in top of tree?!?!?!

Why?

You could make a loopie as a tether, long for hauls and short for work. Very easy to splice!
