hi im as new to these forums as i am to arboriculture and tree surgery.

i am about to finish a UNiformed bublic services course in college but as you may/ may not know none of the public services int eh UK are recruting especial the fire srervice which is what i wanted to do.

I was thinking of becoming an arborist as my 2nd choice anyway andhas always been in the back of my mind but now ive come to look at it there i can hardly find any couses in the West Wales area the closest i found is a course in a college fairly local for Diploma in Countryside Management and from an old freind who is just finishing his first year on this course there is a bit of forestry and chainsaw built into it but iit is only one day a week for about 2 years would this be a good start or would i need to do a more specialised course. if so anyone know of any around the pembrokeshire carmarthenshire part of wales.

Basicaly i am looking for the most info i can get in starting this as a career

hope somone can help

Thanks, Dyson

i cant offer much advice for places in wales but i hope you find something useful. i assume youve tried entering course numbers and your location into google? ie; cs30 cs31 etc + your location. good luck and welcome to the forum.

I'll second that Jonsie, just done my cs30/31 there, nice bunch of guys very professional, all the kit provided. May be a trek from Wales but you can stay there, facilities are good and the instructors are top notch.

good luck mate

cheers for the help guys. places like london and even north Wales are a bit far for me and im also on a tight budget it looks like i am going to do a course in Coleg Sir Gar either in NVQ Forestry Level 2 or Extended and Subsidiary Diploma in Countryside Management Level 3 the only thing is neither of them is realy directly what i want especial the the 2nd, the college also do CS30/31 which may be a good idea but at the moment its a nightmare getting a job of any type let alone in arboiculture anywhere near where i live so a 7 week course would not be ideal.

thanks for the help guys and i looked at the proclimber one a while ago if i was to go along that road would it be worth doing the 6week fast track or a selection of the smaller ones plus the problem i have wiht the proclimber is that i just dont have the money at the moment.

thank you,

Dyson
