Hi all,

I need to do some remote area surveys soon, and i need a GPS ideally with basemapping of either 1:50k or 1:25K I dont need mobile GIS so the digiterra units not coming with me, I have been eyeing up the Garmin Dakota 20 with uk OS base mapping, Has anyone used one of these units? or should I just stick to the tried and tested Etrex Vista. Or has anyone really splashed out for a GPS62st which can take maps from google earth etc?

I need decent battery life (8hrs minimum)

ability to capture waypoints (with at least 50characters)

navigate to way points (essential)

OS maps would be an advantage

AA batteries (so if they do go flat they can be swapped)

compact enough to slip in a pocket but big enough screen to see multiple points within say a 50mtr radius

any others i should consider:confused1:

cheers

i didnt really, as its not a brand i have ever used and had read some mixed reviews online they look a very smart unit though.

also i cant see the functionality on their website for gathering waypoint and then using these for navigation to and from OSGB grid refs? maybe worth a phone call though to their sales department

Ive the garmin GPS60, and used the GPSMAP60, and theyre brilliant tbh. bomb proof and totally reliable. Saw the new GPSMAP62 in trail magazine and it looks another step up from brilliant.

I bought a garmin patch antenna from halfords for a fiver which i stick on the truck roof on the way to sites and it gets a full signal right across the board with DGPS

cant fault it
