personal accident insurance

Another problem is this....

I'm self employed running a small business with 1 or 2 employees. I hurt myself. I tell employees what to do each day from my bed where I am lying in agony.

As far as the insurance company are concerned I'm supervising which is working and I won't get a penny.

Insurance is for employees only who get time off and sick pay etc. If your self employed you have no chance unless you genuingly are off work.

I have insurance to pay my mortgage if I'm permanently injured but no generall accident cover.

I did recommend CICA, simply because everything that they said when I took out the policy has been proven to me in subsequent claims. They promised instant payouts, and thats what I got. When I amde a claim, I was termed as "total disability" meaning I could not manage to carry out my NORMAL everyday activities without assistance, from making a coffee, to my job. I told them from the get-go that I could still supervise, and they still gave me a full payout. I have subsequently asked whether the arm that was damaged is covered in future, and they have no issues with that.

As far as being pushy, I do find that is a fair comment, and something I have reported to their managers. Now, I have them come once a year instead of 6 monthly, and they have it in writing from their superior that I am not willing to take out further policies unless I ask for them. Since then, they outline various new policies, but do take no for an answer. If you have a problem with anyone, just ask them to leave politely, and refer it to their Head Office. One other issue I had (a long time back) were reps of different ethnic backgrounds, who had a poor grasp of the English language, and I found it hard to understand what they were trying to sell, and they must have found it just as hard to understand "No"!! This was also remedied after a phone call.
