thanks for the input guys, think i,m getting the drift,i know it will be alot less hassle when its sorted thats for sure.surprised ifor williams don't do a kit to be honest, but then again they aint had electricity in wales that long i suppose! many thanks

why dont you just get some really long jump leads. mine stretch all the way into england so i get electric for free.:001_cool:

its cheaper and easier than fitting a split charge system.

i fitted a split charge unit in my landy and it took all day and cost around £200 including all the cables and fittings.

if you look on the net you should get some long ones, if not get some thick welders cable and make your own

Thats a good idea!

I got mine wired up with a white socket by the garage I got it from, but if you don't unplug it when tipping it eats fuses.

I just swap batteries over periodically and bench charge overnight.

If I used it more frequently I would get round to a different set up with some thick cables and a direct feed off the landy.

A split charge system just to charge the battery can be the same as a caravan split charge system and only cost about 40 quid BUT it must have the white plug disconnected when tipping. If not the pump will try and draw current through the circuit as dean says and blow the fuse.

i wouldn't bother messing with jump leads they lead to sparks and accidents when people get lazy. if you want to use them spend an extra 20 quid and get anderson sockets on the ends, much better than croc clips.

The split charge units for 4x4 winches that isolate the vehicle battery from the winch batteries are best as they have resistors built in to stop fuses blowing & winch draw way more amps than some pathetic electro-hydraulic power pack ;)

Also a quality “caravanning” split charge unit will also have resistors built in

Cheep split charge unit wont have resistors as they are only for a leisure battery that has low draw with e.g. lights running off it.
