it works better if you remove the core and insert a bungy, wire etc bro... 16 strand is easier to splice with the core removed

Ah ok,i just thought it was a bit weird.

the core is there just to keep the rope round, it has very little to do with the strength of the rope, so removing it is no issue bro

I used a 5mm (outer diameter) piece of rubber fuel line in my new one. Works a treat but added some rubber hose pipe over the outside too to protect the eye, it also helps keep it open a bit more.
