I find it interesting that you consider not reading the Guide to good climbing practice to be not complying with the WAH regs.

The GTGCP is an interpretation of the regulations for our industry, written on behalf of a trade organisation. There is no reason why anyone shouldnt read the regs and draw their own conclusions about how they should be applied in arboriculture.

I'm pretty sure the WAH regs have very little to say about handsaws for instance.

Peter, I must agree that it is not directly linked, but the WAH regs say that work at height should be properly planned.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident which results in a prosecution, the guy in the wig will be looking for guidance on how to deal with you.

He will look at the GTGCP as this is an ACOP, published in conjunction with the HSE.

The GTGCP gives a "Risk hierarchy" where "Wherever practicable a handsaw should be chosen in preference to chainsaw use".

True the GTGCP are guide lines, but make sure you can justify not following them.

Ps. I was just trying to get a response, when posting my first post.

i usually have a handsaw on my harness, but this week haven't had one with me.

sometimes it just feels better, calmer to use one, and helps get all that crap done that isn't worth starting an engine for.

I also like how much quieter they are when you start them up!
