I think its only advised that company owners dont check the gear of the employees themselves, they should get an independant person in or get one of the employees to trained up to do it. This removes any confilcts of interest where a tight boss doesn't want to pay for new gear.

 

But individuals can do there own gear. I did the course years ago and have never spent any money on loler inspections. well worth it.

 

There can also be a conflict of interest getting your own staff to do loler for you, bosses pushing their weight around an all that.

Yes I'm sure there can be and so I guess in those situations an external examiner could be better. But generally you can do your own, its better to do your own than not have it at all.
