replanting after felling leylandii

I have a row ow large leylandii to fell and want to replace with hardwoods

 

As the title says i am looking for some advice on what i could replant between leylandii stumps if this is possible preferably hardwoods, bareroot of standard size.

 

Would i need to supplement the soil etc

Depending on how long the Laylandii have been there, there will have been a small amount of soil acidification, but it does not tend to remain in the soil for long (it get leached out by the rain, which i believe you occasionally get in Ireland). So i would plant what you like, just add some well rotted compost when you plant the trees. Generally smaller trees produced the best results in the end. But most people want instant effect, so you will have to plant larger one.

Enjoy, it will make a nice change from felling.
