Hi guys this should be a simple on if ya know what your doing :blushing: I am going to overhaul my MS230 soon and when I set it up where is the best place to take a RPM reading or can you do it from the chain speed :confused1: and if you know the max rpm for a 230 that would be good

to read the rpm you need a tachometer (suitable for 2-strokes and able to read up to the rpm range you are looking for).

 

either a wireless unit you hold near the sparkplug, or a wired unit you clip to the ht lead.

 

 

stihl make a couple of tachs... about £80 if memory serves

You Can do it by ear if you have experience but in my experience, I am usually 500 - 1,000 rpm down on max spec - no bad thing but not getting top whack out of the engine - now got a tach so can do both
