i've been given a fs44 thats a non runner, the bloke that gave it to me said it would run but when he turned the choke off it would cut out, so he had a fiddle with the settings on the carb:thumbdown: now it won't start at all, does anyone know a starting point for resetting the carb, ie screw in both screws then turn back x amount of turns etc. Thanks in advance. When you get it running again, try turning the L screw (nearest the engine) counter clockwise 1/2 turn, if this doesn't keep the thing going then I usually strip the carb, clean it with carb cleaner then re-assemble. Worth checking the fuel pipe and filter as well, once had one that the fuel mix melted - smelt horrible, like cellullose.

Hi Spud do you know the fuel/oil mix ie 25:1 or 50:1 thanks Egg.

Yes - the ratio is dictated by the oil and not the equipment as most people think - 25:1 was for 1970s - 1980s oil/equipment, most modern oils will be 50:1 but personally use 40:1 as I have seen too many fried pistons in my time!
