Sycamore reduction- how much?

if it is mature enough that the bark is realy plating high into the scaffolds hard reductions may leave this tree prone to sooty bark disease, caused by massive dysfucntions in the sap flows and weakening the cambium. semi mature you may get away with it, but it would still be highly likely to succumb to polyporus squamosus, the dryads saddle which finds big cuts on sycamore like eggs Benedict at the ritz

Thanks for the advice, I would say its probably between 30-40 years old, completley covered in Ivy, probably never been touched before.
