i dont know much about world history or politics but 100 years ago were we not making a lot of money out of slavery and basically taking other peoples land through force:thumbdown:

Erm... Not quite mate. Britain abolished slavery in 1833 not 1911 and was the first country in the world to do so. And in 1911 the British Empire already had all the dominions she would ever possess. However it was the possession of these dominions from which Britain was able to accrue much of its vast wealth at the time which meant it did'nt have to tax its own population quite as much as we have to pay today by comparison. Which is just as well as the average household income would have been less than £50 per year.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

Nope, a billion seconds ago, it was 1979.

60 * 60 * 24 * 365 = 31,536,000 seconds/year, which means 1 billion seconds is about 32 years :001_tongue:

The rest is spot on, though :thumbup1:

Also, a billion hours is a shade over 1900 years making it even more unlikely for certain bodily incarnations to still be present. :D Stone age is roughly right though (Mesolithic in Europe).

I would rather be alive today than 100 years ago. I'm likely to be more affluent, less likely to succumb to a range of unpleasant diseases, less subject to class discrimination, generally better educated and profoundly unlikely to be involved in two world wars.

It haasnt GONE wrong- it always has been wrong. Thats what humans are.

Ditto the above.

But also remember 1 billion and a bit seconds ago the world was at war and genocide was taking place on an unprecedented scale.

A few billion seconds before that the world was at war and if someone said 'over the top' you couldn't then start arguing the various health and safety implications before doing so.

Half a billion seconds ago and more conservation and sustainability (politically wise) didn't happen - there's much more awareness these days.

So yes it's all corrupt these days and the banks are the lowest form of life but it could be a whole lot worse than in 'the good ol days'! It's not all bad and it could be a lot worse....
