According to BBC news the govt have now postponed the 12 week consultation just 2 weeks in to it...looks like they are backing away from the original plans.

Announced this morning that the Forestry sell-off is off, due mainly to public pressure.

Not exactly off. Looks like they're still planning to dispose of all the FC estate, but it will be leased instead of sold which will allow the government to impose more conditions than if they sold freehold.

That defra link sounds quite promising on paper, lets see if it's just more political rhetoric, I hope not but i'm very cynical of any noise coming out of a politicians mouth.

Hopefully normal sales will resume shortly when all the fuss has died down.
