Two logs needed

I have a customer that want 2 large logs in their reception as a feature with there bark on.

I have explained that the chances are that in time they will start to lose the bark and the client has now accepted that they are going to have to take a bit of a chance.

I am not going to get involved in supplying then logs but if anyone on here would like to then if you post/message me your details then I will forward them to the client.

The quantity is two, they should be fairly straight, as little damage to the bark as possible, length 3.5m-4m and diameter around 400mm to 450mm (roughly) I guess that it would help if they were fairly clean already as the client is probably going to want you to supply them pretty clean. delivery to enfield area for mid febuary.

Thankyou,

I cannt help with the logs but as Delabodge has said they will not be easy to move, I wonder if your client relizes the weight of these.

Re the bark, dependant upon what wood it is and the temperature etc etc bark falling off shouldnt really be a problem.

We woodturners often leave a natural edge on bowls etc and especially on small items you can loose it in places but thin cyanoacrylate (superglue) soon sticks it back.

As the logs are being left long abd in the round you will be surprised how long undisturbed bark will stay there.

Maybe more of a concern is whether the logs are going to be laid down or stood on end, perhaps its not a good idea to stand them unsupported in a reception area, Health & Safety and all that.

Never mind it will give someone a bit of work but a few words of warning will not go astray as they might not have thought the idea through properly.

They are going to stand upright in the reception. The building has been gutted I believe and the builder is going to ensure that they are securely fastened. as I understand it the floor and the plaster ceiling will then be finished around the logs so that it would seem they grow straight through the building.

I am sure they are not expecting to just pay standard timber rates, would appreciate some names to give them, delivery only.

Thankyou,
