How about looking at the craft market? What I mean is selling seasoned blanks for things like walking sticks, coat racks etc. I know of a guy selling 5 hazel blanks for walking sticks, seasoned and straight for around £30 a go!

Cheers Stereo Ill add it to the list :thumbup1:

I havent spent any time in the copse yet but with christmas now out the way and the next few months being normally quiet Ill be venturing up for a few days.

The reason you cut low is to encourage nice, straight growth.

Spot on Quickthorn. One of the latest 'tricks' undertaken by volunteer groups and my local Wildlife Trust, is to make a protective 'cage' around the cut stool from the lop & top. This is supposed to prevent deer and rabbit browsing. Although this can be fairly effective, it wastes the bottom 6" - 12" (or more, depends on the height of the cage of course!) of growth as it twists and turns its way through the basket.
