One has come up for sale locally.Anyone use them and what do you think.I'm only a beginner and am taking CS 30/31/38/39 next month , is the 440 too much ?

Ms440 for cs 31 Well you will get the tree down faster then the others Its good saw will do all jobs you need to do as a beginner..Sod it go all out get an ms880

A bit big for the 30/31 but at the right price it will do the job and serve you well in years to come. You will need a bar max 15" long for the course though so budget for that as well.

I also used a 16" on an MS230 but the paperwork states a 15" max, I assume it is at the descretion of the tutor/assessor.

 

Turning up with a 440 with 20" bar might not go down too well, plus you have to sharpen it so the shorter the bar the quicker the sharpen!!

It's great saw mate if it's the right price get it you wont be disappointed. We have one left and she's had loads of hammer but keeps going:thumbup: I don't know about it being the best saw for your test but it's not too big and is a good all rounder on the ground:001_smile:
