Fixed or bodged?

I recently got my self an 038 super working again after getting it in the form of a box of bits with a ruined piston but a pot that I managed to clean up by hand with wet n dry paper and a fine oil, so after the addition of an after market piston I'v got what is so far a resonable back up to the 361 for the grand total of £65.

I'm now trying to do the same to my 3120 as it died on it's last outing, I had known it was slighty scored but not enough to affect it's running (wishful thinking really).

I was just wondering if any one else has done much of this kind of semi - fix and if it's just putting off the inevitable?

You need to remove the aluminium transfer with acid and then lightly hone the bore with 400 grit emery, then fit a new piston.

 

As long as the plated bor is in good condition above the exhaust port, you should be able to get a good long term repair.

Eerrm well I'v been useing 280 instead of acid but finishing with 400 as you say the results seem sound so far (probobly just takeing longer and more work), glad to hear it can be a long term fix.
