Hi,

I am in the process of starting up my Firewood Business and I have been looking for a log splitter. I have probably looked any every single one over the last couple of weeks, spoke to some very helpful people and this forum has been a great source of information too BUT I just cannot decide which one to go for.

I my budget is between 1-1.5k but might stretch a little more.

I have been looking for a second hand one but seems to be very rare

I dont have access to a tractor so it's going to have to be petrol.

I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend?

Thanks for your help:thumbup1:

I'd stretch it a little more if you can as you're still in domestic money/just about into pro money, a little more would make a big difference in build.

what sort of material are you handling - arb waste or proper thinnings?

For Arb waste, that's the style of thing I'd be suggesting - budget wise, any of the italian ones should be within reach (well, not far out of reach) :thumbup1:

For thinnings, a conventional vertical with removable table - but cost will go up

I know what you mean twisty, but on a "table" type, like the Mignon, the A11, etc the ram only comes down to the height of the table on it's top settign - great for coppice type stuff, but not always great on bigger diameter thinnings. The ability to take the ram right to the floor if you need to is quite useful on billets (or alternatively on massive discs)

That one in your pic, is that the one you were sayign you and Dan were crosscutting with?

Ah yes Get you with the long stuff and ram stroke !

Yes thats the beast I have repainted it ! the internal size of the ram is about 180 - 200 mm lol its out of a large bray loading shovel !

tends not to argue with much ! :)

cheers for the info guys, spoke to another couple of companies over the last few days (who again where extremely helpful) and i think its between the A11 or the one on ebay, going to have a think and maybe toss a coin

Again thanks for your help
