Cornus mas then? (slight hint of grasping at straws sneaking in here).That's definately opposite and it ticks all of your other ident' features. Although at this time of year they are easy to spot as they are starting to come into flower.

It looks like a fruit tree, but it has opposite buds. Looks like you've discovered a new species. All you have to do is name it something like Prunus alternifolia 'Hairy Owenii' and the report is complete.
