stove kettle

I'm after a second kettle for my stove and been looking on amazon where there are some pretty cheap ones. Are all stove kettles suitable for hot plates or are some only gas friendly? The one I've got holds about 1.5 litre and wouldn't mind something bigger for scrubbing the dishes. Any recommendations?

i would think any metal kettle would do, if it boils too fast make a circle out of welding wire to hold the kettle up a couple of mm, this works brill for cooking all day while you are out without burning the grub

Nice one Bob that fits the bill. Argos is just down the road too. I have a trivet on my stove for keeping the water hot but not boiling and its good for cooking rice on too. I'm constantly boiling water for the girlfriends hot water bottle too!

The better kettles usually have a heavier base. This provides a more even heat - but the most important thing that this does is resists bowing of the base. If the base bows then there's not as much surface-to-surface contact between the the hotplate and the kettle.

Right. I saw one in tesco which had a copper base but that was £35 so I thought I'd best leave it on the shelf

if your constantly boiling water then go for an Aga kettle good solid base bit expensive @ £50/70. but last a life time.

le creuset do some good stove top kettles, not sure about the price though sean.

Had a couple of le creuset kettles but the base soon warped:thumbdown:

 

Currently using a stainless steel " master class " kettle on the oil fired Rayburn - easy to keep clean and always boiling when half on the hotplate with stove on tickover.Used it on the woodburner over christmas because the rayburn went out( 2 years since I last serviced it:blushing:)Best kettle We've had - About 5 year old now
