Waxoil -- anything better ???

Waxoiled the landy chassis some time ago and rust spots are showing through all over, it doesn't seem to bite into the metal.

 

When I was mechanicing we used to use a product called Tectyl, we thinned it with old engine oil and sprayed it on with a parafin gun.

 

It used to bite into the metal, never wore off and protect like a good un.

 

I'm wanting to protect both my motors with something decent, does anyone know of any other product similar to Tectyl which are good for keeping the metal work rust free under extreme conditions?

 

Not bothered about cost as long as it does the job and also if anyone is local to me where they do rustproofing if I haven't time?

I bought some stuff in aerosols last time i did mine, it stuck like you know what to a blanket. I'll dig the can out tomorrow and post details. was about 6 quid a can i needed 8 for mine.

Before anyone buys cleentech, Search LRO and Lr4x4 forums for "cleantech" and "Chrissyboy"

 

There has been an awfull lot of forum discussion about this company I'd read an awfull lot of it and then make your mind up. I've read most of it and to be honest wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Apparently they still do Tectyl but theres loads of different types.

 

The stuff we used was really thick waxy dark brown stuff, but we are going back to 1982 no need to treat the rust, just clean off the mud or flakey stuff with an airline and apply, used to run into the seams and joints then set to a tacky finish similar to waxoil.

Dean I wouldn't waste my time waxing your Toyota, Japs know how to build a proper motor she ain't gonna rust in a hurry..

I treated my landy chassis with stuff called por 15 check out http://www.frost.co.uk. They sell some weird spray stuff that you apply on your chassis first that disolves rust and then leaves a Zinc Phosphate coating. You then add por 15 resin on the top and you can hit it with a hammer and it won't crack! I applied mine 2-3 years ago and its still mint. Problem with Land Rovers obviously is that they use box section instead of channel profile and so need to get inside the with some thing. I ended up drilling a few extra holes to get a load of the resin inside the box section. If only they made a Land Rover Chassis like a Unimog.
