I agree re hollow trees, after all they are often left standing while all around perish during storms because of thier ability to flex. It is the hollow combined with the onset of decay and the potential targets that got me going.

 

As conkers says, if it is on its way out now better sectioned down while still safe to climb.

this walnut is from a place i work i dug about 18 inch off dirt out of the centre and wondered if there was anything i could do to stop it fillin with water and dirt and try to stop it from rotin out as the limp on the left hand side is leaning toward the house any advice

Keep an eye on it by all means but the deep muck and still water will soon become an oxygen free environment. No oxygen = no life, so no rot due to water/mud pocket.

this walnut is the bigest walnut i have seen is as big as any oak round this area it is such a beautiful tree the will need a limb coming out of it soon as it right over the house

so did i do wrong by digin it out i only see it as a bramble was growing out off we only went there to prune the loral hedge

Definititly consider bracing as an option maybe a thin or a very light reduction as well seeing as its so close to the house....this walnut was still standing,just when we felled it probably started with a simular defect though before it split.

i did wonder about bracin but didnt say just incase i was wrong and looked stupid we use a tree surgeon for the big jobs we do but he hasnt done one for bracin he said it takes to long for what its worth, but as its a beautiful tree i thought i would ask u guys and anyone that would be intrested in having a look please let me no as i hate seein tree taken down for no reason and i will pass your number on, cambridgshire brampton thanks for ur help
