Nice 1 Rupe! :) slightly embarrassed now that the solution looks so simple :blushing: I at least now know I'm not the only1 to be having problems with the bloody thing!

Craig, not sure about the fact that the CMI locks the rope, do you not think this feature is help those with bad form ?? ;))

Seriously though, I am starting to wonder if I need to look for a replacement to the pantin, the CMI could be it. Do you know if there is anything similar that does not lock the rope?

In 2011 we will have available the NEW STEIN foot acender built specificly for use with Chainsaw Boots. Most foot acenders on the market were designed to be fitted to standard climbing shoes and not to large boots. The Stein has a clip which stops the rope from jumping out of the ascender when in use but allows for quick release of the rope when required. Once it is available for general sale we will post on here. This will form part of the STEIN Synergy SRT System due for release in 2011.

The cmi one, like rupe said feels quite bulky. Being able roflick it off the rope can be quite handy once up in the tree, if your pushing straight down whilst ascending they won't flick off, it's all down to technique. The kong futura works brilliantly and super stable underfoot but unfortunately the webbing wore through in weeks. Thy stein looks big and cumbersome. Personally I'd say stick with petzl and refine the twchnique, you can also lock in a crab if you have too.
