Don't be too tempted with a six pot, the extra two cylinders and length knocked the 'nimble' out of this machine. You do not need anywhere near 100 hp in woodland as you are always in low box. A 764 is the best choice unless you are doing a LOT of roadwork and like everything there's always a downside.

I have a 1164 and a 754, the 754 runs rings around the 64 when it comes to climbing up steep slopes etc, 754 much more agile and better balanced, 754 also better on fuel although mine has a uprated engine of 85hp instead of the normal 75hp.

I never had a 4 pot one but I did always intend to buy one and was out playing with one last Saturday (which I think was the 974).

Anyway the extra weight in front of the wheels was useful even if it meant the nose ploughed when descending a steep bank onto the ride.

I liked the extra length/weight out front on the 6 cyl with a roofmounted crane. With my old 1164, if you were a bit overzealous on full reach you could lift the front, though it was worse when loading pointing up hill.

Worked with a county 7600 four skidder briefly on one estate; that would wriggle it's way through fairly tight stands but never felt quite as robust as the equal wheeled ones.
