no, no and no.

 

you got the deadwood hint though- we are dealing with a saprobe

 

i should have been clearer with the mushroom hint- by this i mean "classic" mushroom shape, "stem and cap" style.

 

not a bracket

trouble is chris, your asking for an identity based on your dead portions of oak, considering oak have the second highest number of associated fungal species recorded at around 2000 give a few hundred or so, well you can get a long long guessing game going here!

 

I am asuming the white portions of the area circled are the "shrooms"

maybe, mycena inclinata and number 2 guess is velvet shank

its either inclinata or what i originally thought, Mycena galericulata

 

unless I got it wrong in which case i shall leave this forum never to return!
