one of my favorite Van Goghs........'Birch Pollards'

 

Just to be obtuse and illustrate that the exception proves the rule !

Van Gogh's life, in many ways, epitomised the struggle that talent often has in a world of social prejudice !

 

Made me think of these shots the minute sean posted it.

Taken last year in the Basque.

 

Certainly is uncanny, though a little out of rotation.

.

 

Perhaps the absence of the figures depicts the lack of use this rotation/crop "enjoys" ?

You cant beat a Van Gogh up close and personal!

As far as I could gather at the time, this particular crop is still being harvested.

 

Much like the thousands of street side Ash & Mountain side Beech of that region.

 

Although ofcourse, there is a hugely significant drop in the requirement &/or need of the crop, even where the practice is still alive.
