got chance of a spaltfix 280 only done 20 hrs £5000, are they any good?

does it only cut 280mm timber is that big enough for you. we are looking at 370mm as our machine is too small for 60% of the cord wood on the market.

Great machine, with much more splitting force than most other machines in its class.

 

I had one, but sold it because I don't have the time or inclination to do fire wood.

It looks that way, and I agree. Even a 370 mm will be too small at times. No point having a processor that only takes half your cordwood:001_unsure:

 

(obviously if its cheap enough, you can always resell it with profit!)

You can just get a large splitter and break down the bigger stuff and then put it through the processor.

 

Unless you are only buying in thinnings you are always going to have over size stuff.

we tried that double handling kills the job. If you can get 80% through a processor then chain and split. I found making billetts really time consuming but chaining into 10" discs only slows the job by a third.
