This will be the first thread to 1 million views(very soon)....Well done Andy Collins for starting it and everyone who contributed....he's my favourite tree.

 

 

Do you remember going to the lakes for our 'bonding' weekend at college? We went to see the highest naturally regenerating oaks and then on to some yews. Were they the Borrowdale Yews? Tutor(can't remember name now) reckoned they were between 4 and 8 thousand years old!!! I was young and daft but still thought that was a tad vague!

I remember them well James.I never forget a tree.They were Sessile Oaks and quite a sight halfway up that small mountain.The Borrowdale Yews are old but not as ancient as the Llangernyw Yew.Wordsworth wrote a poem about them.....i have a piece of deadwood i carved from one of them....Our tutor was Tony Pinkerton...How could you forget him?....although it was 22 years ago!
