Thought it would be snowing with you.

The Glens of Angus been snowing on and off this past 3 weeks.

was a little dusting 2 weeks ago but its only settling above about 2000 ft.

its all those warm airs we get wafting down from orkney and shetland that keep it so mild here:lol:

why is there so much confusion about firewood prices/volumes.....same thing here in France... They use the term stere (stair) which is apparently a m3 sold in 1m lengths

but it is a m3 incl air space. I recently saw an ad for the local farmers co op selling oak @ €129 for 2 stere which they stated was 1.6m3 so at that rate = roughly £54 stere or £67.5 m3 solid...and collect it yourself.......However buy from local farmers/woodsmen and you can collect from £35 ....£39 delivered... Why is it so difficult to find out what youre getting for you cash ? (euros or £)

If you are a domestic customer it is simple.....just get the supplier to quote per cubic m3 loose loaded onto the back of the truck or trailer. as long as you have this info from all your potential suppliers you can make valid cost comparisons. you can also measure the truck or trailer that turns up to deliver to ensure you are not being cheated.

I get clowns on all the time telling me they can get firewood for £25 and £30 per tonne.

I ask them is it supplied with a weight docket? who says it's a tonne? do you think that halford's 3 x 5 trailer being pulled by '98 fiesta is actually towing a tonne?

I may come across a bit harsh or cheeky to these guys sometimes but who need that kind of customer anyway.

The real question is....Why are we still charging 1990's prices for firewood?

Get with the times, if your supplying quality product, then charge its actual value.

Personally I firmly believe that firewood is worth £70 - £100 per m3. Based on how its managed, felled, processed and delivered.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. all we have to do now is convince our customers to pay 2010 prices:thumbup1:
