What are your experiences with this? I've found these to be really annoying, not sure if it was just my 11mm rope though...

 

And for the record, though this may be a bit late, generally cavers use the petzl stop, or the version without the lever. A mate descended a 509m cave shaft, using a stop (I assume. It's and educated assumption though). 20m rebelays no doubt give it some cool off time though. These things do get pretty hot pretty fast. Though I don't suppose you need anyone telling you that...

 

If you're still at this, and haven't tried it, use a stop and just let it cool off every so often. Also worth making sure you know how to lock it off.
