Rope Access to broaden skills base?

Evening All,

Been thinking about taking the first level course in IRATA Rope Access course to broaden my skills base and possibly increase the work load.

Does anyone else have these quals and use them for rope access work, I see there is vegetation clearance on steep banks etc, but is there other non arb/vege more varied rope acces work available?

I understand that the work relies on documenting and logging hours on the job in order to progress to the more advanced course levels.

Advice or stories welcome.

Thanks :thumbup1:

if you use conventional tree equipment you should be ok though Anchor point selection may be an issue

I did my level 1 more to see what it could bring to my tree climbing

Did not use it for rope access work but did enjoy and learn loads

to be totally honest it is rather costly and if you are serious about getting into industrial rope access then you will need level 1 and 2 for sure . i used to do most of the clearence work for a company called celtic rock , i spent all of my time working from a single line and safety line , the work was varied from clifs over roads and railways ,beeches etc right up to working in a couple quarys in north wales . Trust me the first 20 or 30 dropps are reat fun but it quickly becomes rather dull . Well at least untill your on a quary face while they are blasting at the other end of the quary lol .

If i were you and looking into getting into rope access then maybe get a job with a firm first .Trust me there is alot of red tape involved .
