good luck trying to use the breaks on a bedford without going through the windscreen when first jumpin in it in the morning . i drove a few and it was always a good idea to do a couple laps of the camp before getting out on the open road

I know that feeling. Even letting the truck warm up didn't help.

Answered my own question, 5,120kg apparently.

So I could have it plated for 7.5 tonnes, carry nearly 2.5 tonnes of wood and drive it on a car licence...

I have a feeling you are trying to talk yourself into the Bedford and there is nothing wrong with wanting a toy but here’s the reality goggles

An Ifor flatbed with a gross of 3500kg will weigh somewhere in the region of 800kg which leaves you with 2700kg. That’s a tad more than the Bedford and it won’t need tax, annual mot’s, or insurance. The loading height is knee high where the Bedford is head height.

Oh yes and the Ifor won’t depreciate like the Bedford.

Agree with Andy, a ifor would be better. Bedfords are nightmare to load and parts difficult to source. You would only use off road if you really had too. I had too as that's what the army were using at the time. You have a choice.

I don't think you can drive it on a car license either. Sure you would need a LGV license depending on your age.
