With an Aston Martin in the garage I doubt the financial loss is their main motivation in the decision. Just brace is and put it in wiriting that it doesn't mean it wont fail, its purely a measure taken to give it a bit more time, should be fine unless the customers a bit dodgy

some very good points made on both sides of the fence on this one guys many thanks..

i think.... at the moment it stands that the customer who ive done a lot of work for and am very confident isnt dodgy, really wants to if possible retain the tree as its the end of the row and obviously will look rather rubbish if it is removed.

i will advise again about removal and explain the costings etc but i feel that he still likely to go with bracing of some form. if so.. i'll get a disclaimer written up for him to sign detailing my professional recommendations etc.

think i'll start there and see what the outcome is.... i'll try get some pics at some point when i have a spare minute... which we all know how readily they come along :tongue_smilie:

Felled this cypress about 2 weeks ago... a very bad attempt had been made at bracing they had just wrapped wire loops to strangle hold the limbs and screwed in bits of wood to prevent bark damage ...this was about at 40ftup the remaining 25ftgrowth to the top was swelled by atleast 6 " above were the limbs had been strangled!!! tree was properly split to below ground level we found on felling though, so the bracing had done its job very well..so invase or none invasive bracing would be an option ... to be honest on some species if they dont have tannin in the sap invasive bracing is better imo as you only have to slacken the cables and i am convinced its stronger than the cobra /boa systems.
